Recreation Hall

Camp Homeward Bound, Bear Mountain, NY (1999 - 2001)

3000 s.f. recreation and theater building at a summer camp run by the Coalition for the Homeless. Built over the lakefront site of a smaller building which burned down, the new glue-lam frame structure defines one edge of the collective space of the sloping campus green. Four porch-like dependencies, including a new stage building, mark each side of the hipped-roof shed. Highly colored plywood panels create a taut interior surface, and contrast with the rough-cut exterior pine siding, sympathetic to the 1940's structures around it.
